Advocacy and Support for Your Life Transition Decisions

I provide compassionate guidance and professional advocacy to help you navigate end-of-life decisions with dignity and peace. I will meet you at whatever stage of life you are currently at.

Meet the End-of-Life Doula

My name is Hali ("Hay-lee") and I'm the founder of Full Circle: End-of-Life Doula Services and an end-of-life doula dedicated to bringing peace and dignity to the most pivotal chapters of life. My journey into this work began deeply within my own family and best friend, where I witnessed the profound need for human connection and gentle advocacy during final moments as well as the need to plan ahead for those moments. I witnessed my beautiful mom-in-law battle cancer during her last months until she went into hospice care and passed away.  I also provided respite care for my best friend for the last year of her life as she battled ALS. These personal experiences grew into a calling to serve others so I completed nursing school and became a hospice nurse.  During my time as a hospice nurse, I recognized the need to have a dedicated non-medical support for my patients and their loved ones to complement my medical care. I then decided to be that resource ensuring that no one has to navigate the complexities of this journey alone or without a voice. I received my certificate from IAP Career College and received proficiency credentials for After Death Care Educator and End-of-Life Doula through National End-of-Life Doula Alliance.

My approach is rooted in compassion, radical presence with some humor mixed in. I support individuals and their loved ones by creating a safe space for difficult conversations, assisting with legacy projects, and acting as a steady anchor when things feel uncertain. Whether we are planning for the future or navigating the immediate present, I am here to honor your story and protect your choices with a kind heart and a calm hand.

Doula Services:
Common Questions & Answers

What does an end-of-life doula actually do?

An end-of-life doula provides non-medical support, focusing on emotional, spiritual, and practical needs. I serve as a steady companion and advocate, helping you navigate your choices with dignity and ensuring your wishes are honored throughout your transition.

How does your support help families?

I offer a calming presence for loved ones, helping to facilitate difficult conversations, providing respite care and educating the client and families to know what is to come in the dying process. By handling logistics and advocacy, I allow families to focus on connection and shared moments rather than feeling overwhelmed by decisions.

Where do your services take place?

I meet you wherever you feel most comfortable. This could be in your private home, a hospice facility, or a hospital setting within the Kansas City area. My goal is to bring peace to the space you are currently in.

Do I need hospice to hire a doula?

No.  Doulas can help long before hospice becomes involved, including during diagnosis, treatment decisions, chronic illness, aging, or advance planning.

Is an end-of-life doula the same as hospice?

No. Hospice provides medical care through nurses, aides, social workers, chaplains, and physicians.  And end-of-life doula provides non-medical support that complements hospice care.

While my background as a hospice nurse is beneficial as an end-of-life doula, I will not be utilizing my nursing license during my services.  I will, however, use my training in the dying process to help you and your loved ones know what is happening and what will come next.

Can you help with advance directives and end-of-life planning?

Yes. I can help guide conversation about:

  • Advance directives

  • Living wills

  • Healthcare wishes

  • Funeral and memorial preferences

  • Legacy projects

  • Important documents and organization

I cannot provide legal advice, but I can help you prepare and feel confident discussing your wishes.

What is vigil support?

Vigil support means having a calming, supportive presence during the final hours or days of life. This may include:

  • Sitting bedside

  • Playing music

  • Reading aloud

  • Providing comfort to loved ones

  • Explaining common signs of active dying

  • Offering breaks to exhausted caregivers

No one should feel alone during this process.

Do you provide overnight support?

Depending on availability, yes.  Overnight vigil support may be available for families needing rest, reassurance, or an experienced calming presence during difficult nights.

This add-on service will include a night differential rate added to the vigil service rate.

Is end-of-life doula services covered by insurance?

Most end-of-life doula services are currently private pay and not covered by insurance.  However, some long-term care plans or hospice benefit programs offer partial reimbursement.

Because of private payment, my pricing can be found here on the website under "My Services".  I will provide a quote in private following a free consultation so everything is outlined for you.

If you are not able to afford the full price of a service, please bring your financial hardship up at consultation and we can discuss the opportunity of utilizing any funds that may be available from supporters' contributions to supplement.  I will do everything in my power to help you with the process of obtaining assistance.

**Financial assistance will vary case-by-case and may not be available for everyone.

Can children be involved in the dying process?

Absolutely - when appropriate and supported gently.  Children often cope better when included honestly and compassionately rather than being left confused or frightened.  The decision to include children should only be decided within the family.

Do you support LGBTQ+ individuals and their loved ones?

Absolutely. Full Circle: End-of-Life Doula Services is committed to providing compassionate, affirming, and inclusive care for LGBTQ+ individuals, couples, chosen families, and caregivers.

End-of-life planning and decision-making can look different within the LGBTQ+ community for many reasons, including:

  • Estrangement from biological family members

  • Reliance on chosen family and close friends for support

  • Concerns about discrimination or being misgendered

  • Questions surrounding legal decision-makers and advance directives

  • Fear of not having wishes respected during serious illness or after death

  • Unique grief experiences for partners, friends, and caregivers

Every person deserves dignity, respect, autonomy, and the right to be fully themselves through every stage of life — including death and dying.

I strive to create a safe, judgment-free space where identities, relationships, pronouns, family structures, and personal wishes are honored and respected. Whether supporting a married couple, a chosen family network, a transgender individual wanting their identity affirmed, or someone simply seeking compassionate care without assumptions or bias, my role is to walk alongside you with empathy and respect.

Love, identity, and dignity do not end at the bedside — and neither should compassionate care.

Are your services religious?

Services are client-centered and respectful of all cultures, identities, and spiritual practices.  I support people where they are - whether deeply religious, spiritual, or undecided.

I will not, however, take part in services filled with hate speech, racism, misogyny or degradation.  I reserve the right to refuse services in those instances.

At what stage should I reach out?

I am here to support you at any stage—whether you are planning thoughtfully for the future, navigating a recent diagnosis, or in the final stages of a transition. It is never too early or too late to seek advocacy and peace.

How do I get started?

Contact Full Circle: End-of-Life Doula Services to schedule a consultation.  Together, we can discuss your needs, concerns, and how support can be tailored to you and your loved ones.
